How it all began..

Our family run company was founded in 1966 by Harry Bates with an initial investment of £1000.00.

Harry rented premises at the existing site of 106 Shaw Heath, Stockport, which was a third of the size of the current building.

With support from manufacturers and trade customers Harry Bates Ltd quickly established itself as the leading plumbers merchants in the area. With the aim of providing quality products and service.

With the acquisition of two further adjoining properties, over the next 35 years our company achieved steady organic growth, continuing as it was conceived with quality manufacturers, value for money goods and service. 

Even today Harry Bates still offers Free Local Delivery.

In 2000 a large extension to the bathroom showroom was completed and we now have over 90 displays and this new web site crammed with information, as well as the store being open 7 Days a week this firmly establishes our company as the leading store in the area.

2004 saw the opening of our new plumbing counter & collection point which has help to improve our customer service 

2005 also saw launch of our new accessories area & additional bathroom showrooms with over 20 extra displays

2006 was our 40 years Anniversary! and this is so far seen Extended Showroom For Now 15 Working Displays & Solo Showroom For Shower Enclosures!   

In 2007 we refurbished the front of the shop with new contemporary modern design signs in black white & stainless steel finish! We also refurbished our Villeroy & Boch, Kohler & Laufen showrooms with new working baths, steam cabins showing the new cutting edge designs.

2008 saw a further expansion of the Bathroom Showrooms with new in depth working displays with the latest developments in innovation and design.

2009 has our in house showroom installers busy with all the new product launches. New Exciting Designs are being installed each week at present, so lots to see plus Expert  help from our design team should make it well worth a visit to our extensive showrooms. Value and Service from a few hundred pounds to the ultimate in luxury we can help.
